Community Managers Connect: Addressing Challenges in Community Management
Community management in the video games industry is a vital role that contributes to the ongoing success of a gaming community. More than ever before, players have numerous channels through which they can communicate their thoughts and feelings about the games they’re playing, and this is a double-edged sword that can cut both ways.
Here at PTW, though, we see these roles as pivotal bridges that connect a studio or dev team to their players. And while some might think of community management as just a challenging job, in reality, many find it to also be extremely rewarding on multiple levels. Recently, PTW held our first Community Managers Connect Session, featuring:
Nee Nguyen, Global Head of Player Communities
Nel Schwertner, Senior Community Manager
Charlotte Hamilton, Community Manager
Daniel Ramos, Senior Community Manager
In the streamed video, they discuss key community management issues; how social media and moderation topics are not always highly prioritized, including the importance of incorporating community initiatives and programs early on in development and planning; acknowledging and addressing online safety for players and devs; and how analytics and sheer numbers don’t always tell the whole story. They share some top tips on how you can address these challenges, based on their experiences from previous games they have worked on.
Check out the video below to get an in-depth look at how our community managers approach their positions, and gain some insight into what it means to engage with a player community!
